Picked up the car, got some cold roast chicken for lunch and headed to Los Glaciars National Park, 80km away. It was a nice drive out there firstly through flat dry paddocks and then windy through tree-filled National Park. There was a lookout a short way into the park which we stopped at as it gave you a good view over the Glaciar Perito Mareno. Full of big tourist buses. This is the big glacier in these parts, also it is just really big.
Driving on we get to the glacier proper. It is huge and must span a couple of kilometre at least. They have installed a range of boardwalks that take you down and around close to the face of the glacier. We headed right down to the bottom as there were less people there. We spent over an hour just watching the glacier and got to see some good calving of the face.
It then started to rain heavily and the wind was howling through and everyone cleared out, we stuck with it for a while then had to find some shelter. We decided to go for a walk around the boardwalks and look at the other side of the front of the glacier, this also help us warm up a bit.
After about 4 hours we headed home, dropped off the car, went for a coffee and then dinner.
Flying to Bariloche tomorrow.
