A sleep in! It was great to sleep in this morning and not be required to wake up at a time that starts with 6 and then talk politely to other people at breakfast. Breakfast here is between 7.30am – 9.30am, so we rocked down around 8.30am.
There isn’t much to see in Punta Arenas, it is a place for people on the way to somewhere else like Antarctica and Torres del Paine National Park. As we’d managed to book everything yesterday we had the day to wander around. We headed out to the cemetery which is all tombs and mausoleums above ground.
From there we walked continued on to the Zona Franca which is supposed to be a big duty free area of big shops and shopping centres. Hmmm, LP didn’t get it quite right again. There are some really big shops, but they seem to be department stores like Target and Kmart and it is full of locals. We walked back into town and sat down to sort out what we might do after Torres del Paine. At present we have a bus ticket from Puerto Natales to El Cafate and no accommodation. Much of what we do will depend on what we are able to see and do in Torres del Paine.
Went back to the same place for dinner, it is close and full of locals. We ordered what the table behind us had, it wasn’t on the menu but had vegetables with it.
