After a leisure breakfast of some fruit, croissants and coffee we headed off to pick up the car we booked yesterday, then we headed towards the wineries. It was a hot day so we were very happy that the aircon was working well. They charge for tasting here in Mendoza, anywhere between AR$15 to AR$150. But they do give you a decent glass of the wine and you have more than one tasting option right up to tasting the entire range. We didn’t do the entire ranges, although we did tend towards the more premium end.
The first winery was a very posh looking place with good wine and what looked like a nice menu, which would have been great a few hours later. Second was an old family run spot, in a lovely old building and nice wine, but the bloke couldn’t be bothered. Third was fab, they had cheap salami and goats cheese which we ordered with the tasting, a huge range of wine from decent quaffers to mind blowing malbecs. Sat for an hour and a half with some Italians, a Danish and a South African with a fantastic local hostess. Bliss. Last stop was an organic winery. Good wine where you get ear bashed by an Italian with a passion for his work. Really interesting opinions on organics, wine and politics in Argie (that’s not sarcastic, it was interesting to hear an outsiders who lives here’s viewpoint and a long slow tasting of the wines is a nice way to spend the day).
Headed back into the city and parked the car. Had a relaxing evening.
