Monday 5 March 2012
As the Tunasaurus alluded to yesterday, we were struggling for things to do as all the fab galleries were closed, so we decided to explore the big park attached to the funicular properly. So we rolled up but the funicular was closed (Monday morning). Oh well, at least it was meant to be closed. So we walked up what was marked on the map as a trail, but it was hard to follow as 300 mountain bike paths crossed it, and it wasn’t marked at all. The stroll was quite nice but rather hot so we were a tad moist by the time we finally hit the top. From there it was a gentle down grade along a fairly quiet road with nice trees and good views out over the city.
Being Monday all the cafés and restaurants were closed, so we thought we’d walk to the botanic gardens at the far end and if they had a café stop thee, otherwise grab a bus or train back to where we wanted to go. But, they weren’t the botanic gardens, they were a nursery, and they went onto a massive freeway with no pedestrian access. So back up the hill we went and down another road. This one proved more fruitful and dropped us at a nice sculpture park (yay, art that’s open).
By 15:00, lunch was very welcome. After lunch we wandered home for a swim and a cool off, before meeting Leigh (me gusto Chile) and Dave for a pitcher of Sangria followed by rather nice dinner. They’re off to Valaspirio and then a cruise tomorrow, we’re heading South via train. Thanks for a lovely dinner chaps.
