Day 2 of our tour. Today we headed for the salt lake, Salar de Surire, which is about 100km form Putre on dirt road but very pretty.
We stopped at Guallatire, a small village in the middle of nowhere which had a cute church and a pretty green valley with grazing vicuna and llama.
Then to Surire, with many stops for photos of wildlife, vicuna, birds, llamas and rhea (lesser).
We are travelling with three 20 year old French students, two girls and a boy. He is a twitcher! and loves to take many, many photos of animals. We finally got to Salar de Surire which is quite stunning and full of flamingos and vicunas.
On the other side of the lake we got to the Polloquere hot springs and lunch at 14.30. Very hungry. Unfortunately there wasn’t time to go for a dip in the hot springs, not sure we’d do it anyway as it was a bit frosty.
Lunch was a quick picnic as there were some very dark and thundery clouds heading over the hills towards us.
A short stop at the local Conaf (Chile National Park Office) and a look at some vizacha. These are cute animals that look like rabbits (but aren’t related) and have long bushy tails.
It was then back to Putre on the dirt roads. By the time we got back to our hotel, I was sorely sick of dirt roads and my butt was sore.
Dinner was good tonight, we had alpaca. It was nice, reminded me of goat.
