Happy Birthday Adrian!
When in Paris, what do you do? Have lunch with your in-laws at a very nice restaurant.
They are on holiday, we are on holiday, what better place to meet up than lovely Paris. We met them at their hotel, went for a wander through the streets. Everything looks very French. We walked past the Lafayette Shopping centre, Opera House and Saint Madeleine Church, both quite lovely, big and French.
Lunch was at Bistrot du Sommelier a great little restaurant that is quite posh. The food is sensational and the wine to match was perfect. We had four courses and four wines, our waiter made us guess what each wine was. No hope really as they are all French and we’ve got no idea. The man himself, Phillippe Faure-Brac, went around the tables greeting his customers. This man won sommelier of the world in 1992, so you would expect his restaurant to do an ok match of food and wine.
From here we went for a walk, we were all rather full and needed some action. Staggering along the pavement four wide and ploughing through everyone (Ha! Pay back!) we arrived at Concorde. I had a not so quite giggle to myself and I spied the Eiffel Tower peering over the trees.
We headed into the Musee de l’Orangerie which is housed in what remains of a palace. This is where Monet’s Water Lilies are displayed in two huge purpose built oval rooms. Rather awesome. We got told off for talking! I blame the in-laws. There is also a great gallery underneath with a fantastic collection of Renoir and Cézanne.
Since by this time we were all feeling rather tired we walked back their hotel and stopped for a pint in the Irish pub nearby.
It was wonderful to meet up with the oldies and we had a lovely time.
We headed off for another short walk and then to catch the metro back to our apartment. I’m guessing they might have had a nap
