Froggy land ahoy

Thursday 31May 2012

Off to Paris today. We decided to do the Eurostar, but when we booked we didn’t realise it would be the jubilee long weekend, when half of the country was fleeing for a mini break (love that phrase, very Bridget Jones). The result was that the cheap seats weren’t very cheap, and the posh ones only a pittance more, so we went posh. Comfy seats, nice meal and a glass of plonk (South African for some reason). There wasn’t much choice left in trains either, so we ended up killing time in St. Pancreas station for a few hours. Fortunately they had a nice champagne bar (apparently it’s the world’s longest, but as I’d never heard of another one and it’s on a train platform I didn’t think it was that big a boast) and we had some pounds that we needed to use up.

By the time we hit Paris and made it to out apartment down in Bercy, we were buggered after an early morning start and a late evening the night before. The thought of going out to dinner was too hard, so a bottle of plonk and a simple quick pasta later, we were crawling into bed (after pulling it down out of the wall, vertical sleeping French folk).
