What is it with London weather? Where are the overcast and cloudy days? We have been having some brilliant sunny and warm weather. It makes us hot!
So today we thought we would spend the day inside. First stop was the National Gallery, the building is stunning. The collection was fantastic. Only there were thousands of primary school children, about 8-12 y.o.. I wonder at what they are really learning when they are plonked down in front of some of the best paintings and the teacher seems to be asking ‘who can see … this?’. The other thousand students are running around (literally running sometimes) and copying down the name of paintings into their book. Apart from that, the National Gallery was great, I loved the Turners they had.
The St-Martin-in-the-Fields Church has free lunchtime recitals by up and coming artists. So we thought we’d stop past for a listen, we got a really good cellist and pianist. Also the church is stunning, it is apparently the parish church of the royal family.
After lunch we decided that we should spend some time outside so went for a walk. First past Admiralty Arch, quite stunning and the road goes all the way to Buckingham Palace.
As it is the Diamond Jubilee this weekend they are putting up union jacks everywhere and installing railings and seating outside of the palace.
We had to go past the coat shop to pick up my new coat, it had to get the sleeves shorten. Hopefully it will get cool enough to wear it.
Then a wander through Mayfair, there are so many expensive cars, many with their drivers sitting and waiting in them.
Our destination was Hyde Park. It was full of people sunbaking, particularly around the lake.
Hot now, so headed home on the underground.
